Nvidia confirms RTX 5060 black screens and compatibility issues with certain motherboards
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
The recent launch of the RTX 5060 was quite controversial, with independent media accusing the company of "rug pulling" its new budget graphics card by launching it during Computex and withholding the review driver. Add to that user discontent about 8GB of video memory (AMD has a few words about that) and multi-frame generation, high prices, and overall, quite a disastrous state of the recent driver releases. Not the way it's meant to be played... Now, we have yet another issue with the RTX 5060 graphics card. This time, Nvidia confirmed compatibility issues with certain motherboards, which cause black screens on reboot. The company says this happens with "legacy motherboards," and a firmware update is required to resolve the problem. Nvidia published a support page on its official website with detailed steps to perform if your system experiences black screens during reboots. Nvidia suggests doing one of the following steps to mitigate the issue: Shut down your computer before turning it on. Update your motherboard's BIOS to the latest version. Make sure the motherboard runs in UEFI mode, not Legacy / CSM. If your motherboard does not support UEFI, Nvidia recommends contacting your GPU's customer support, and it will provide the necessary VBIOS update for legacy motherboards. Boot using integrated graphics or another GPU. After booting to the desktop, you can download the Nvidia GPU UEFI Firmware Update Tool and get your RTX 5060 to the latest firmware with the necessary fixes. This applies to the RTX 5060 and the RTX 5060 Ti. Nvidia adds that the firmware update is only required on systems that exhibit black screen issues on reboots. There is no need to update GPU firmware if your system restarts without issues. You can find all the details and links to the firmware update tool in a post on the official Nvidia support website. Early RTX 5060 store listings show depressing prices of the upcoming GPU mid-ranger
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
Nvidia is launching its most affordable RTX 50 graphics card on May 19, and the model is already engulfed in controversy. To add insult to injury, early store listings show rather depressing price tags for OC variants from board manufacturers, making the already less-than-appealing graphics card even more repulsive. X user @momomo_us spotted a bunch of RTX 5060 listings on Best Buy with price tags ranging from $339.99 to $409.99. OC Editions (cards with slightly better clocks than the standard models) cost from $80 to $109 more than the MSRP, which is $299. This brings the RTX 5060 with its 8GB of VRAM to the same level as the RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB of video memory. That is quite a premium to pay for one or two hundred extra MHz on the core out of the box. Best Buy has already removed those listings, and chances are that the prices were temporary placeholders (unlikely). Also worth noting is that not all manufacturers are asking that much. PNY, for one, listed its OC RTX 5060 for $299, as Nvidia intended. However, there is no guarantee that the price will remain the same after the launch on May 19. The RTX 5060 was announced to a lukewarm reaction right from the get-go. Most users mocked Nvidia for offering 8GB of memory in 2025, and benchmarks showed that modern gaming on an 8GB GPU is not easy. Later, Nvidia added fuel to the flame by setting the review and driver embargo on the launch day, May 19. It coincides with Computex in Taiwan, which means plenty of reviewers attending the venue will not be able to publish their reviews on the launch day. This led to many believing that Nvidia is pulling it under the rug in hopes that budget-conscious gamers will pull the trigger on the card without independent reviews, which are not expected to be very flattering. For reference, according to Valve, Nvidia's 60-series graphics cards are the most popular GPUs on Steam. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 3 of NVIDIA's biggest red flags I can't ignore for its upcoming RTX 5060 launch
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
NVIDIA aims to limit 8GB RTX 5060 reviews at launch, but that's not the only thing you need to know about the upcoming mid-range GPU release. NVIDIA made its mid-range RTX 5060 GPUs official on April 15, and the RTX 5060 Ti in 8GB and 16GB versions debuted one day later on April 16. Rumors suggested that the non-Ti 5060 model would launch on May 19, and NVIDIA has now confirmed that release date with a 9 AM PT (12 PM ET) launch. As explained in the NVIDIA post I shared above, standalone RTX 5060 desktop GPUs, pre-built PCs, and laptops are expected to be available on launch day. The RTX 5060 is the most affordable "Blackwell" GPU that NVIDIA has released so far, arriving with a $299 MSRP. How closely third-party cards stick to that price remains to be seen. NVIDIA's 60-class GPUs have traditionally been the most popular cards out there for gamers, at least judging by Steam's Hardware survey. A mix of laptop and desktop RTX XX60 cards dominate the list. Regardless of the 60-class popularity and relatively attractive pricing (at least compared to other RTX 5000 GPUs), some major red flags are popping up as information regarding the RTX 5060's review cycle comes out. Add that to the commotion already created by VRAM amounts and a competing AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT that could be unveiled at Computex (which kicks off May 20), and you have a situation in which NVIDIA doesn't look too hot. Here are the three biggest issues I have with NVIDIA's upcoming RTX 5060 launch. π© NVIDIA RTX 5060 reviews won't go live on launch day NVIDIA's RTX 5060 GPU is expected to debut at a $299 MSRP on May 19, 2025. (Image credit: NVIDIA) There's no better way to judge a GPU than with first-hand experience and testing. This is especially important with NVIDIA's RTX 50-series cards, which have all arrived with boastful performance claims that don't always work out as advertised. Unfortunately, the most recent news suggests that the company won't provide early access to drivers for press reviewing the RTX 5060. Hardware Unboxed revealed the situation with a post on X, claiming that NVIDIA is "trying to hide the RTX 5060, just as they did the 8GB RTX 5060 Ti." No advance drivers means no support for the new RTX 5060, so getting hands on the card early doesn't mean anything. Worsening the situation is the fact that a lot of the major GPU reviewers will already be at Computex on May 19; hard to properly review a GPU when you're at a trade show. The Hardware Unboxed revelation points to a post from igorsLAB with the same information. Igor Wallossek is quoted as saying: "I will not (be able to) publish a review of the GeForce RTX 5060 here at the official launch. Not because the sample is missing β itβs already on the table β but because NVIDIA has decided not to provide any press drivers until the launch." Nothing like delaying a review until after launch to instill confidence in your product that traditionally sells out within hours (if not minutes) of release. π© NVIDIA's RTX 5060 has only 8GB of VRAM NVIDIA did a split review opportunity for its RTX 5060 Ti launch, seeding to reviewers ahead of release the version with 16GB of VRAM. That left launch-day buyers unsure how well the 8GB version performs, and now that publications have been able to review the card with less VRAM, I can see why. Hardware Unboxed got its hands on the 8GB RTX 5060 Ti and published a review a few days after launch, calling the card "instantly obsolete." TechSpot also provided some in-depth RTX 5060 Ti 8GB testing after launch, and it too called the card "instantly obsolete." A more complete quote from TechSpot's review sums up the results it saw after testing 15 games: "It's painfully obvious that an 8GB frame buffer is no longer satisfactory for PC gaming beyond the most entry-level products, which can't cost more than about $150. Since such products no longer exist in the current market, neither should 8GB VRAM configurations." Considering the RTX 5060 doesn't have a 16GB VRAM option and falls behind the 5060 Ti in terms of CUDA cores and clock frequency, it's easy to suspect that reviewers won't go easy on the GPU. π© AMD's Radeon RX 9060 XT GPUs are expected soon AMD's Radeon RX 9060 XT GPUs are expected to be unveiled at Computex 2025. (Image credit: AMD) Rumors suggest that AMD's Radeon RX 9060 XT GPUs will be revealed at Computex 2025. Like NVIDIA with its RTX 5060 Ti, it looks like AMD plans to offer 8GB and 16GB VRAM options. Considering the fallout it's seen regarding NVIDIA's $379 8GB 5060 Ti, I expect AMD will deliver its GPUs at a more affordable price to help justify its own 8GB card. Of course, the RX 9060 XT GPUs are meant to compete directly with the 5060 Ti β XT is AMD's version of Ti, after all β but a price close to the RTX 5060 would theoretically push a lot of mid-range buyers towards the 9060 XT. Because the Radeon announcement is expected so soon after NVIDIA's RTX 5060 launch date, I strongly recommend waiting to see what AMD has created, good or bad, before jumping on any new mid-range GPU. If you plan to buy Nvidia's most affordable RTX 50 series graphics card, it is time to mark May 19 in your calendar. Nvidia has just confirmed previous rumors about the RTX 5060 launching later this month with a starting price of $299. People love Nvidia's XX60 graphics cards. They are the most popular GPUs on Steam, and their reasonable price tag makes them an affordable choice for millions of gamers worldwide. With that said, it will be interesting to see how the market reacts to the launch and whether you will be able to find one at the $299 price tag. The price of the RTX 5060 is the same as the price of the RTX 4060. For the same money, you get more CUDA cores (3,840 over 3,072), faster memory (28 Gbps over 17 Gbps), and higher memory bandwidth (448 GBps over 272 GBps). On top of that, the RTX 5060 supports all the platform changes Nvidia introduces in the RTX 50 series, including DLSS 4 multi-frame generation and newer ray-tracing and tensor cores. The biggest complaint about the RTX 5060 is undoubtedly its 8GB of VRAM. Even though it is now GDDR7, tests show that having more memory, ideally 12GB or higher is always a big plus as we pointed out in our recent RX 9070 review. Rumor has it that Nvidia is considering finally dropping 8GB with the alleged RTX 50 SUPER series. In addition to announcing the launch of the $299 desktop RX 5060 graphics card, Nvidia is launching the laptop variant. According to the company, laptops with the RTX 5060 will be available for as little as $1,099 on the same day. Also, more games are getting DLSS 4 support, including MechWarrior 5: Clans, New World: Aeternum, and Spirit of the North 2. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Nvidia has one more RTX 50 series graphics card to launch in the pipeline. While the RTX 5060 Ti is already available, the RTX 5060 has yet to receive its official launch date. VideoCardz reports that Nvidia's budget-friendly RTX 5060 is coming as soon as May 19. Reportedly, Nvidia has already confirmed the date, and it is now working with its board partners on the launch details. Speaking of details, Nvidia allegedly set the embargo date to the same day, May 19, which means potential buyers will have to decide without checking reviews first. This might not be a good sign for the cheapest RTX 50 Series graphics card (Nvidia's performance charts below). The RTX 5060 with 8GB of video memory is launching at $299 MSRP, which is the same price as the previous-gen RTX 4060. While the price is unchanged, the RTX 5060 offers more CUDA cores (3,840 over 3,072), faster memory (28 Gbps over 17 Gbps), and higher memory bandwidth (448 GBps over 272 GBps). It also has a slightly higher TDP of 145W. The RTX 5060 could be the most affordable RTX 50 Series graphics card for some time, as there are no confirmed rumors on lower-end tiers, such as the RTX 5050 (RTX 4050 never materialized outside its laptop variant). It will be interesting to see how the market reacts to the launch and prices in light of the overall discontent with the RTX 5060 Ti models having only 8GB of memory in the lower-spec variant and generally poor quality of Nvidia's recent drivers. AMD plans to take on Nvidia's more affordable graphics cards with the RX 9060 XT, and the company has already confirmed plans for product announcements on May 21, 2025, at the Computex 2025 stage in Taiwan. Cheaper Radeon GPUs could be revealed there alongside new Ryzen processors for AI PCs. Source: VideoCardz Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Nvidia reportedly announces RTX 5060 Ti and 5060 on March 13
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
Nvidia's RTX 5000 Series graphics card lineup is about to expand. VideoCardz reports that the company briefed the media about the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 announcement on March 13, 2025. The RTX 5060 series reportedly consists of three variants: the RTX 5060 Ti with 16GB VRAM, the RTX 5060 Ti with 8GB of VRAM, and the RTX 5060 (also with 8GB of memory). This is the same configuration as the previous-gen RTX 4060 Ti/non-Ti variants. Nvidia's new mid-range graphics cards are expected to feature more CUDA cores, faster (DDR7) memory, and higher TGP. In the Ti variant, customers will see a jump from 4352 cores to 4608 cores, while in the non-Ti variant, the upgrade will be more significant: from 3072 to 4352 CUDA cores. Although the amount of RAM is not going to change (which makes quite a lot of PC enthusiasts with tighter budgets quite upset), Nvidia is upgrading from GDDR6/GDDR6X to GDDR7. This increases memory clocks from 18 and 17Gbps to 28Gbps and the bandwidth up from 288/272GB/s to 448GB/s. According to VideoCardz, Nvidia also "upgraded" the RTX 5060 to another chip tier. It now uses XX6 (GB206) instead of XX7 (AD107) in the RTX 4060, leaving the GB207 chip for the upcoming RTX 5050 (less powerful Nvidia graphics cards use dies with higher numbers). Here is a quick spec rundown (keep in mind these specs have not been confirmed yet): RTX 5060 Ti RTX 5060 Die GB206-300 GB206-250 CUDA cores 4608 3840 Memory 16GB GDDR7 8GB GDDR7 8GB GDDR7 Clocks 28 Gbps Memory Bus 128 bit Memory Bandwidth 448 GB/s TGP 180W 150W Prices and the launch date are not known yet. Expect full details tomorrow with the official announcement. Source: VideoCardz Source Hope you enjoyed this news post.
