Limited benchmarks show less than impressive overclocked performance from the RTX 4060. What you need to know Partial reviews are in for the NVIDIA RTX 4060, though content creators are only allowed to share very specific pieces of information at this time. The RTX 4060 delivered 27% better performance than the RTX 3060 when running Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p in testing by YouTuber JayTwoCents. Overclocked benchmarks for the GPU were less impressive. The RTX 4060 will go sale on June 29 at $299. Full NVIDIA RTX 4060 reviews haven't dropped yet, but NVIDIA gave access to certain creators and journalists for a partial embargo. YouTuber JayTwoCents and some others were given early access to the GPU to share very specific benchmarks and thoughts. A recent video by JayTwoCents shared how the RTX 4060 performed when running Cyberpunk 2077. The RTX 4060 delivered a 27% boost in performance when compared to the RTX 3060 when running Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p. That's a respectable increase across a single generation and aligns with previous benchmarks shared by NVIDIA. Less impressive were the overclocking figures seen in testing by JayTwoCents. Increasing the power draw by 20% over stock settings, the FPS of the RTX 4060 when running Cyberpunk 2077 only jumped from 81 to 82.5. As explained by our colleagues at Tom's Hardware, the RTX 4060's performance when overclocked is not surprising. In fact, it likely isn't even disappointing to most people. The RTX 4060 is a more efficient card than its RTX 40-Series siblings. It's not designed to take advantage of increased power draw or overclocking. Perhaps more important the overclocked performance is how it handled ray tracing. JayzTwoCents noted that he did not recommend the RTX 2060 or 2060 Ti for ray tracing. He argued that the RTX 3060 improved ray tracing, but not enough. "40-Series 60-series card with DLSS 3, frame gen on, and running ray tracing now, to get you this kind of FPS in a title as demanding as Cyberpunk? Shows now the extra feature sets are something that's worth considering," he said. All of these figures are important to place in context. Cyberpunk 2077 is a demanding game, but it also supports DLSS 3, ray tracing, and path tracing. NVIDIA likely chose to let creators test out its new GPU with the specific game to showcase the RTX 4060 in its best light. We'll have to wait until full reviews come out to get a complete gauge of what the RTX 4060 can do with the best PC games. Source

Nvidia now selling the RTX 4060 on power efficiency, says it's 8 times faster than GTX 1060
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
Nvidia announced its RTX 4060 series cards, the RTX 4060 Ti and the RTX 4060, last month. The 4060 Ti launched for $399 and has been very poorly received by most of the press due to the little or no performance uplift that it offers, compared to the 3060 Ti. On average, the 4060 Ti is about 10% faster than its predecessor, and at times it is even slower. This falls quite a bit short of Nvidia's own claim of the card being 15% faster. To make matters worse, the 4060 Ti comes with only 8GB VRAM despite costing $400, and its 16GB variant is a whole $100 extra, which is kind of ridiculous as GDDR6 memory is not really all that expensive nowadays. Seeing the poor reception of the GPU, AMD too was forced to cut the price of its own RX 7600 just a few days before the launch. As such, the 7600 has received a bit more praise than the 4060 Ti. And now, Nvidia too is reacting to the negativity. The company has published a blog post today sharing more details on the upcoming RTX 4060. This GPU was initially planned for a July release but Nvidia has decided to launch it early on June 29. The Green team has realized that performance-per-dollar (value) and VRAM capacity are not some of the metrics with which it can entice buyers. Hence, Nvidia is now focusing on the power efficiency of the RTX 4060, something which it knows is excellent on these cards. In its blog post, it says: At recent energy prices, the average gamer playing 10-20 hours a week could save a significant amount, while having a vastly superior gaming experience. In , for example, a gamer playing 20 hours a week could save up to $132 in energy costs over the course of 4 years, when upgrading from an RTX 3060 to an RTX 4060. Nvidia has focused on the UK and US as well, alongside . The energy prices in the European countries are indeed pretty high and Nvidia's reasoning here makes sense. Alongside the talk about power efficiency and energy savings, the firm has also shared (below) a new slide where it compares the RTX 4060 vs the RTX 3060, the 2060, and the GTX 1060. According to these figures, the 4060 can deliver eight times (8x) the performance of the GTX 1060 Pascal GPU, which is quite a hefty claim. There is also a strange demarcation on the graph which suggests Nvidia may somehow be tying ray tracing performance in this. While Nvidia may not be technically wrong here, it is also probably not an apples-to-apples comparison here as the GTX 1060 does not have ray tracing (RT) cores. Moving on to the newer RTX 2060, Nvidia states the 4060 is 2.3x or 130% better. Source -
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics cards will now launch early on June 29

People who have been waiting to buy the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card won't have to wait quite as long as they first thought. The card, which was originally scheduled to be released sometime in July, will now be available to purchase on June 29. NVIDIA officially revealed the new launch date in a Twitter post. It added that people can pre-order the card on June 29 starting at 6 am Pacific time (9 am Eastern time). Prices are expected to start at $299. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 will have 8GB of GDDR6 memory, a clock speed of 2,460 MHz and 3072 CUDA cores NVIDIA stated the card will offer 1.7x FPS performance improvements over the older RTX 3060 and 2.3x over the RTX 2060, with DLSS 3 enabled. The graphics card will still have over 1.2x and 1.6x FPS improvements from those earlier cards without DLSS 3. The more powerful version of this card, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 TI, is already available for sale in an 8GB version from several companies, including ASUS, ZOTAC, MSI, and others, for $399.99. A 16GB version of the same card is still scheduled to go on sale sometime in July. It will be interesting to see the reception of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. While it's not quite as powerful as the current NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 TI, it will be $100 cheaper at launch. That could make it very attractive to PC gamers who want to upgrade their older card but also not spend a ton of money. However, the performance improvements that the company said were supposed to be in the 4060 Ti were not quite there. And of course, the 8GB VRAM for $400 in 2023 didn't help it either. Gigabyte confirms Nvidia RTX 4060 has less VRAM than 3060, RTX 4070 also leaks out
Karlston posted a news in Technology News
Just over a month ago, the purported specifications of Nvidia's RTX 4060 laptop GPU had leaked. The reports suggested that the performance gap in favor of the 4060 against its RTX 3060 predecessor could be slim. Nvidia has since released the RTX 4060 laptop GPU in various devices. The card features 8GB of VRAM and it looks like the desktop counterpart is also going to be the same. Spotted by VideoCardz, Gigabyte appears to have accidentally leaked the specifications of the desktop RTX 4060 via its Gigabyte Control Center (GCC) tool. The release notes for the latest GCC version 23.03.02.01 lists support for colours of the RTX 4060 Gaming OC 8GB model. As a bonus, Gigabyte has also confirmed the memory capcity of the RTX 4070 as well. Its Aero OC RTX 4070 apparently has 12GB VRAM, just like the RTX 4070 Ti. The last gen RTX 3060 had 12GB and 3070/Ti featured 8GB. Here is a screenshot of the release notes showing the 4060 with 8GB and the 4070 with a 12GB memory buffer. In terms of the core specifications themselves, a report last year suggested that the RTX 4060 will have 36 steaming multiprocessors (SMs) or 4,608 CUDA cores. However, this is still unconfirmed and is unlikely. The laptop variant comes with 3,072 shaders which means the desktop counterpart might pack around 3,840. As for the RTX 4070, it purportedly features 5,888 CUDA cores per previous rumors (via RedGamingTech YouTube channel). Rumored specs show that Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 will come with 3072 CUDA cores and will use a full sized GPU made for the graphics card. Nvidia launched the GeForce 40 series previous year in October. Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 was the first one to release to the public in the series. GeForce RTX 4090, just like other cards in this series, is extremely expensive, costing MSRP $1,599. But that’s just the base price. This meant that the card is sometimes selling well above $2000, if not more. However, top of the line, expensive flagship graphics cards are not the most sold ones out there. They are more for marketing purposes and they give higher profit margin to the companies. Most people, however, prefer to buy relatively cheaper ones, costing around $200 to $400. In those type of graphics cards, xx60 models of the graphics cards are among the most sought after. Until now, we had no information about the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060. That has changed, as per the latest rumored leak. Rumored RTX 4060 Specs Leaked Well known Twitter based leaker @kopite7kimi has shared latest details about the possible Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Specs. In it, he mentions that it’s going to have a full sized AD107 GPU. He further says that the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 will come with 3072 CUDA cores. The graphics card memory (VRAM) is going to be just 8GB GDDR6 at 18Gbps. VideoCardz says that this means that the memory bus is going to be just 128-bit and the memory bandwidth too is going to be limited at 288 GB/s. The good thing about this card is that the TDP is going to be just 115W and Nvidia seems to be increasing the L2 cache in this card to 24MB. Disappointing RTX 4060 Specs These rumored specs are highly disappointing to say the least. To understand that, one needs to look at the table we created below with the above-mentioned specs. Model NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060* GPU GP106-400-A1 TU106-410-A1 GA106-300-A1 AD107-400-A1 Process 16 nm 12 nm 8 nm 4 nm CUDA Cores 1280 2176 3584 3072 VRAM Size 6GB (3GB model released later) 8GB (6GB and 12GB non-Super model released later) 12GB (8GB model released later) 8GB Memory Bus 192 bit 256 bit 192 bit 128-bit Memory Bandwidth 192.2 GB/s 448.0 GB/s 360.0 GB/s 288 GB/s L2 Cache 1.5 MB 4 MB 3 MB 24 MB TDP 120 W 175 W 170 W 115 W Nvidia GeForce xx60 models comparison chart. RTX 4060 is rumored specs. Look at the above chart. What does one notice? Generation after generation improvement in most of the things. From GTX 1060 to RTX 2060 to RTX 3060. Then look at RTX 4060’s rumored specs. What does it reveal. First, RTX 4060 is going to use a 107 series GPU, which is usually reserved for xx50 models in the series. The xx60 series usually uses a 106 GPU. This is a massive cut in the GPU. Then in CUDA cores, generation after generation increase in CUDA cores specs has been stopped. RTX 4060 is going to have lesser CUDA Cores than the original RTX 3060. Yes, different generation of GPUs means performance improvements, but still compared to previous generations it disappoints here too. The limited available memory bandwidth means the card is going to struggle at higher resolution. The TDP too suggests a limited powered card. In simple terms, these specs are shouting one big thing. Nvidia is trying to sell a xx50 model card like RTX 4050 by naming it as RTX 4060 instead and pricing it as such, or even more. This is extremely disappointing if it turns out to be true. Having said. These are just rumors. While leaker kopite7kimi has a good history of getting things correct, these specs could change. Nvidia could also understand and rename these card and release it as RTX 4050 instead, highly unlikely though. Whatever it maybe, we will have to wait for a proper confirmation of the specs. Specs Source: TechPowerUP. * Nvidia claims Memory bandwidth in RTX 40 series is different from Effective Memory Bandwidth due to larger L2 Cache. As one can look above. Almost all the specs in the RTX 4060 series are a downgrade when compared to the RTX 3060 series. The only exception is the newer cards are clocked higher and have a larger L2 cache to compensate for lesser powerful specs. Nvidia Counters VRAM Debate Nvidia has come a under a lot of criticism these days for being ungenerous when it comes to providing enough VRAM in their graphics cards. Games these days are using a huge amount of VRAM, so much so that 8GB of VRAM is not enough for 1080p. Something which Nvidia is marking these xx60 cards for. So to counter that, Nvidia has published a blog suggesting that graphics cards won’t require that much VRAM with larger L2 cache that RTX 40 provides. Nvidia says that with larger L2 cache, the cache hits are higher, hence the game is not required to use VRAM that much. Additionally, it claims that larger L2 cache size means that bigger bus width isn’t required, as larger cache reduces the bus usage by almost half. Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 Generation Memory Performance Efficiency Improvements Due to Larger L2 Cache. Nvidia further says that larger VRAM requires more VRAM chips, which can increase the cost of the cards. Then, Nvidia uses the RAM argument for the VRAM. It says just because a game uses all the VRAM doesn’t mean it needs that. It also goes onto to blame various On Screen Display (OSD) software, which it claims can give wrong information. Additionally, it showcases tools for developers which they can use to prevent excessive VRAM usage. Conclusion The specs for the RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti are disappointing. But they aren’t surprising. We personally think that while what Nvidia is saying about VRAM is true. This is more like a PR job to hide the fact that Nvidia is skimping out on larger VRAM to keep their profits higher. While it’s true that Nvidia does invest a lot in optimizations of it’s graphics cards, no argument is enough for providing just 8GB VRAM in this era. Not to forget, VRAM chips are just not that expensive as Nvidia is trying to portray. In-fact, as this tweet by Buildzoid1 explains, it would cost Nvidia only $32 more to make a 16GB card. But that’s not for bulk orders. When bulk orders for VRAM chips are considered, then making a 16GB graphics card is extremely cheap. So Nvidia’s argument on the cost doesn’t stand either. If that is not enough, this tweet by Hardware Unboxed says that Nvidia has confirmed that extra cache cannot do compensate if the VRAM is used up. Means extra cache is an enhancement for the graphics card, not a replacement for larger VRAM. In all. This series of RTX 40 graphics cards are a disappointing. However, before deciding anything, like we always say, wait for the reviews. The reviews for the RTX 4060 Ti are expected to be out in a few days by 23rd May. Only then will we come to know how good this graphics card actually is. Nvidia Announces RTX 4060 & 4060 Ti, Specs Confirmed
