  1. AMD has finally revealed the launch date of its upcoming Ryzen 9000 processors with stacked 3D V-Cache. At the moment, details are scarce, and all the official information we have is the launch date. If you want the latest Ryzen 9000X3D chip, mark November 7 on your calendar. AMD's teaser does not provide much information about the upcoming processor, except for the launch date and the general facts about the AM5 platform and the Zen5 architecture, such as PCIe Gen 5.0 and DDR5 memory support. However, according to multiple rumors, AMD will launch its next-gen X3D processors with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D reportedly features eight cores and 104MB of L3 cache, with the maximum clock reaching up to 5.2GHz. This chip should tame the criticism that the initial Ryzen 9000 lineup faced after reviewers discovered that the previous-gen Ryzen 7000X3D models offer better game performance. However, as leaked MSI slides revealed, the gaming performance uplift over the previous-gen X3D models is not going to be mind-blowing. The news about the launch of Ryzen 9000X3D processors comes short of Intel's launch of Core Ultra 200S chips, which should debut on October 24. Interestingly, Intel already confirmed that its latest processors are slightly slower than AMD's Ryzen 7000X3D processors. It is quite possible that for many, sticking to the more affordable Ryzen 7000X3D models will be a better option money-wise. If you do not care about AMD's Ryzen 9000X3D processors, you might be tempted to get its latest Ryzen 9000 chips, which are now up to $50 off. The discount applies to the Ryzen 9 9950X ($50 off) and the Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X ($30 off). As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. 2. Here's when you can play the new Dragon Age adventure fans have waited a decade for. 2024 may almost be over, but what could be one of the year's best games is still on the way. The title I'm referring to is none other than Dragon Age: The Veilguard — the fourth mainline entry in BioWare and Electronic Arts' legendary RPG series, and the first in it since 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition released a decade ago. The wait for "Dragon Age 4" has been an incredibly long one, but now that it's finally almost here, excitement for the game is rapidly ramping up. With the RPG now just a few weeks away, players interested in the prospect of a new fantasy adventure are wondering when specifically they'll be able to embark on this new Dragon Age journey. Luckily, the developers have announced the game's official release date, along with precise launch time information. You'll find all of that in the sections below, as well as everything we know about things like preloads and storage requirements. What is Dragon Age: The Veilguard? Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a single player action RPG set in the fantasy world of Thedas, and it takes place after the events of the series' previous game Dragon Age: Inquisition. Players will create and take control of a custom character called "Rook" (you'll be able to give them an actual name in the character creator) and adventure through the game as one of three classes — Warrior, Rogue, or Mage — with each class allowing you to customize and finely tune your playstyle with specialization subclasses. Like many other action RPGs, combat involves utilizing weapons, magic, and skills to take the fight to foes while avoiding their strikes with well-timed defensive maneuvers like dodges, blocks, and parries. Naturally, most of The Veilguard's choice-driven story has been kept under wraps by EA and BioWare, though there are some things we know about the overarching plot of the game. Solas, a companion character that returns from Inquisition, threatens all of Thedas with a ritual that is said to restore lost elven immortality, but also rip open the Veil — the barrier between the world and the metaphysical "Fade" realm where demons reside. You and The Veilguard companions stop him, however, with the ensuing skirmish resulting in the arrival of a pair of elven gods that plan to destroy the world. In the aftermath, you and your allies are tasked with banding together to slay the two deadly deities. The game will have seven different companions you can recruit, travel, and fight alongside, with deep backstories and romances to engage with if you're so inclined. Also, several characters from previous Dragon Age games will appear throughout the story. For example, Varric Tethras and Lace Harding will both be in The Veilguard, with the former originating from Dragon Age 2 and the latter first introduced in Inquisition. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC (via Steam, the EA app, and GeForce NOW), and PS5, and costs $59.99 to preorder (notably, it's also Steam Deck verified). In addition to the standard version of the game, there's also a $79.99 Deluxe Edition with a suite of exclusive cosmetic goodies for Rook and their companions (see our Dragon Age: The Veilguard preorder guide for more information). Dragon Age: The Veilguard — Release date and times Here's the official map for Dragon Age: The Veilguard's launch times on its release date. (Image credit: Electronic Arts) Fans hoping to play the new RPG soon will be happy to know that it's not at all far off, and is only a few short weeks away. Specifically, Dragon Age: The Veilguard's scheduled release date is October 31, 2024, officially making it 2024's spookiest game launch. In terms of exact launch time, BioWare has confirmed that The Veilguard will become available at the same time worldwide at 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET. As a result of this global launch, though, it actually won't release until early on November 1 in a few eastern regions. If you're planning to stay up late on Halloween to play the game as soon as it comes out, keep that in mind! Thanks to a launch times map from EA and BioWare, we know exactly when The Veilguard will release in major time zones across the world. Each of these times is visible in the image of the map above, though I've also put them in the table below: Time zone Release date PDT Oct. 31, 9:00 a.m. MDT Oct. 31, 10:00 a.m. EDT Oct. 31, 12:00 p.m. BRT Oct. 31, 1:00 p.m. GMT Oct. 31, 4:00 p.m. CET Oct. 31, 5:00 p.m. TRT Oct. 31, 7:00 p.m. IST Oct. 31, 9:30 p.m. UTC+7 Oct. 31, 11:00 p.m. JST Nov. 1, 1:00 a.m. AEDT Nov. 1, 3:00 a.m. NZDT Nov. 1, 5:00 a.m. Can I play Dragon Age: The Veilguard with Early Access? These days, lots of big games — especially single player RPGs like this one — have special Early Access periods where people who purchase Deluxe or Ultimate Editions can play several days. However, Dragon Age: The Veilguard doesn't have one of these, meaning that regardless of the edition you buy, you'll have to wait until October 31 at 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET to jump into the game. Dragon Age: The Veilguard countdown clock Thedas depends on the Veilguard to stop malevolent elvish deities from wreaking havoc. (Image credit: Electronic Arts) Dragon Age: The Veilguard download size In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you can be a fearsome battlemage, a heavily armored knight, a nimble ranger, or anything between. (Image credit: Electronic Arts) New games have gotten quite large in recent years, and I'm not just referring to things like map sizes and quest counts. These days, it's not uncommon to see a massive and highly detailed single player RPG like this one require 100GB of file space or more, and unfortunately, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is in-line with that trend. As revealed by the official , you'll need 100GB of storage on a solid-state drive (SSD) to play the game. If you don't have enough space on an SSD you already own, you can try to free up hard drive space by deleting old files (especially large ones like videos), compressing others, or uninstalling other games you don't often play (these are just a few suggestions). If you want to add more space to your rig or need to get an SSD, consider picking up one of the best SSDs available right now. Dragon Age: The Veilguard preload date and time A player-created "Rook," the protagonist and playable character of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. (Image credit: Windows Central) One of the best features of modern gaming is preloading, or downloading and installing a game before it actually becomes available to play. Preloading has become increasingly prevalent ever since file sizes started ballooning into the triple digits, as it helps everyone — especially players with poor or slow internet connections — start playing at launch right away. Preloads are available for both the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 versions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with Xbox preloads live now and PlayStation ones coming a few days before the game's release date. You'll find its exact preload dates and times listed below. Xbox Series X|S: Oct. 14, 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET PlayStation 5: Oct. 29, 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET Can I preload Dragon Age: The Veilguard on PC? Sadly, preloads are not available for the PC version of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, meaning you'll have to wait until 9:00 a.m. PT / 12:00 p.m. ET on October 31 to download and install it. The developers say they weren't able to offer preloads for PC players since The Veilguard doesn't have any form of third-party digital rights management (DRM) like Denuvo in it. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is slated to release on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5 on October 31, 2024. It looks to be one of the top new single player RPGs, and could very well be one of the best Xbox games and best PC games of the year, too. 3. AMD Ryzen 9800X3D is going to be the latest entry in the X3D series of CPUs by AMD, which includes famous CPUs like Ryzen 7800X3D & Ryzen 5800X3D. It looks like one of the most awaited gaming CPUs, the AMD Ryzen 9800X3D, is just around the corner. Part of the X3D series, it comes with 3D V-Cache, which basically puts an extra cache on top of the existing L3 cache of the CPU. This extra cache, that is 64MB in capacity so far, helps tremendously in some games. Allowing an extra boost in gaming performance not seen before. AMD first experimented it with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D CPU, with a massive success. It then followed it up with AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, with even bigger success. Now with the release of the AMD Ryzen 9000 series, which had poor and mixed reviews, everyone is waiting for the X3D series CPUs. While initially they were stated to release in September, that seems to have changed. Now, after months of waiting, we finally have more idea about their release dates. Ryzen 9800X3D Release Date Click to enlarge. A well known leaker from Chiphell forums (translation), via @harukaze5719, has leaked the dates for the AMD Ryzen 9800X3D’s announcement and release. The post says that AMD will announce the Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU on 25th October, which is just a day after Intel Core Ultra 200 Arrow Lake’s release. However, the CPUs will start becoming available from the first week of November. The post also claims that the clock frequency of the CPU is going to be quite high. However, while the price isn’t decided yet, the CPU is not expected to be cheap. This is interesting because the X3D series CPUs usually have lower clocks than the non-X3D. However, some other rumors too have claimed that Ryzen 9800X3D could have higher clocks this time around. As for the release date itself, Hoang Anh Phu, another well known leaker, has revealed the exact date. In the reply to @harukaze5719, they hinted that the AMD Ryzen 9800X3D is going to release on 7th of November. Conclusion If AMD releases the Ryzen 9800X3D in early November, it marks the quickest entry of the X3D series of CPUs till date. There could be two reasons behind this move. First is, the AMD Ryzen 9000 non-X3D CPUs are getting bad reviews. It’s possible that they aren’t selling that much either. Second, they want to counter Intel’s Arrow Lake series. With higher clocks, Ryzen 9800X3D is likely to beat every CPU out there in gaming. In preparation for the release, AMD has also started pulling Ryzen 5800X3D out from many, if not most, markets around the world. The problem is the pricing. Both Ryzen 5800X3D and Ryzen 7800X3D had a MSRP of $449 at release. If AMD is going to price Ryzen 9800X3D higher, people will not buy it as large numbers as before. Intel’s claim of lackluster performance of Arrow Lake in games isn’t helping the prices either. Either way, it’s likely that we will soon officially hear from AMD about it. 4. Before the general availability (GA) of any major software, hardware partners and software developers have to ensure compatibility and readiness for their products. Microsoft's Windows 11 is no different, and for this purpose, the company has a Windows Hardware Compatibility Program (WHCP) which helps verify compatible hardware. Earlier today, Microsoft, via a blog post, announced its WHCP submission starting date for Windows 11 version 22H2. It will be commencing in a few days on May 31. The post also confirms what had been hinted at earlier, that build 22621 was indeed RTM. Additionally, it also mentions that submissions will continue till September 5, 2022 which means Windows 11 version 22H2 will become GA after this, possibly in late September or October. The blog post says: Windows 11, version 22H2 based systems may ship with drivers that have achieved compatibility with Windows 11, version 21H2 until Sept 5th, 2022. Partners looking to achieve compatibility for systems shipping with Windows 11, version 22H2 Release may use drivers for components that achieved compatibility with Windows 11, Version 21H2 until Sept 5th, 2021 (sic) However, bear in mind that Microsoft could push back dates if there are some major issues that need addressing from some hardware vendor. Interestingly, last time too, Microsoft gave away the GA for Windows 11 21H2 in a similar fashion. Microsoft seemingly confirms when Windows 11 22H2 will release publicly
  5. Apple announced iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 on June 7th, 2021 at its annual WorldWide Developers Conference (WWDC 2021). Three months later, the new operating system is graduating from beta, iOS 15 is releasing on September 20th for all users. The tech giant unveiled the final version of iOS 15 on stage during the launch of its newest devices, including the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPad 9th gen and iPad Mini 6th gen. IOS 15 adds a slew of new features including SharePlay, which allows you to FaceTime with your friends while watching shows and movies, listening to music. It's sort of like Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party), in that you can watch movies in sync with your group. The new feature also supports screen-sharing. Toggle Focus mode to work on a particular task, without being distracted by notifications. Speaking of notifications, iOS 15 improves alerts by adding contact photos and app icons on the lock screen. The improvements added to Safari in iOS 15 are quite good too, the browser's tab bar has been moved to the bottom, which makes switching between tabs easier. The Tab Groups feature allows you to save your tabs in groups, and also syncs across devices. iOS 15 also brings support for Safari extensions. Don't get your hopes up for using uBlock Origin on iOS 15, Safari does not allow web extensions to access blocking requests. App Privacy Report helps you analyze how apps are accessing your permissions, and how they connect to third-party servers, i.e. to track you. The Mail app's privacy protection hides your IP address, and also prevents senders from knowing if you've opened the message. IPadOS 15 improves multi-tasking with a new menu, that lets you switch to full screen mode, slide over and Split View (side-by-side) modes. The layout is customizable, so you may choose which apps you want to work with. Jump between open windows by tapping the shelf, which is like the Windows Taskbar or Task View. While we're on the topic of switching apps, you can use Split View in the App Switcher screen too. If you like Widgets, you're in for a treat. iPadOS 15 lets you place widgets on your home screen, and there are plenty to choose from. The operating system introduces a new gesture, where you swipe up from the corner, to bring up the Quick Note panel, that you can use to jot down notes, it also supports the Apple Pencil. If you're wondering whether your iPhone or iPad will get the latest OS update, we've got you covered. List of iPhones eligible for the iOS 15 Update iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max iPhone SE 1st and 2nd gen iPod Touch 7th gen List of iPads that will get iPadOS 15 iPad Air 2 iPad Air (3rd and 4th gen) iPad (5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th gen) iPad Mini 4 iPad Mini (5th and 6th gen) iPad Pro (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gen) In case you missed it, Apple rolled out an emergency update for iOS and MacOS devices yesterday, to fix an exploit related to the Pegasus spyware. References and Image Credits: Apple 1, 2 Apple has been really impressive when it comes to OS updates. OS Fragmentation has always been a thorn in Google's side, thanks to the difference in hardware in Android devices. But Android OEMs are playing catch up, a few have promised to deliver 3 major OS upgrades, but even that's limited to flagship devices. iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 to release on September 20th; here are the list of devices that will get the update
  6. Google's document for device manufacturers lists a launch day and support timelines. Android 10 was released on September 3, 2019, and Android 11 came out on September 8, 2020. So where is this year's Android 12 release? Instead of the final Android 12 release this month, Google pushed out Android 12 Beta 5 and said the final release was "weeks" away. A new report from XDA Developers' Mishaal Rahman claims to narrow things down a bit, saying that Monday, October 4, is the magic date. XDA says it has an internal Google document detailing the "tentative" release date for Android 12. The document actually only lists when the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) source code will be released, but the developer source code release and the consumer Pixel release are usually on the same day. The document looks like it's meant for third-party device manufacturers interested in licensing Google's Android apps and lists a ton of dates for the OS's support timeline. Of course, the core of Android is open source, and anyone can do whatever they want with the source code, but if you want Google's approval and the chance to license apps like the Play Store and Gmail, you'll need to follow the rules. In order to push OEMs to ship newer versions of Android on new devices, Google just stops approving GMS licenses (Google Mobile Services—aka, all the Google apps) for new devices at around the two-year mark. The document also lists when Google will stop supporting the Android 12 codebase and "ACK," or the "Android Common Kernel" (the Linux kernel with Android patches), with security patches, which is 3.5 years after release. (Keep in mind that well-supported devices will just move to a newer Android version after the first year.) The later release is understandable, since Google has a lot to take care of this year. Android 12 is one of the biggest Android releases ever, coming with a whole new "Material You" UI for Pixel phones and including a wild automatic color-theming system. Devices will finally start shipping Android's "GKI," or "Generic Kernel Image," which will help unify the Android Linux kernel across different devices and might even allow some devices to ship kernel updates through the Play Store. There's an incremental file system for Play-as-you-download games, a new privacy dashboard, performance optimizations, and a million other changes. Some of these new features won't be fully exposed to users until the launch of the Pixel 6 (whenever that is), but the first big chunk, Android 12, is just a few weeks away. Android 12 is reportedly due out on October 4
  7. Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 will be released on October 5th, 2021, to Windows 10 users with support devices. Windows 11 is the first major version of Windows released since 2015, when Windows 10 was released. Like its predecessor, Windows 11 will be a free upgrade for users running compatible hardware and running a recent version of Windows. For Windows 10 users with supported hardware, you will be able to update directly via Windows Update or the media creation tool. However, Windows 7 users will need to perform a clean installation using a bootable USB drive and an ISO to upgrade to Windows 11. Starting October 5th, Windows Update will begin offering Windows 11 as an optional update for Windows 10 users with newer, supported hardware. "The free upgrade to Windows 11 starts on October 5 and will be phased and measured with a focus on quality. Following the tremendous learnings from Windows 10, we want to make sure we’re providing you with the best possible experience," explained Microsoft in a blog post published today. "That means new eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first." Based on machine learning intelligence models, Microsoft will continue rolling out Windows 11 to other Windows 10 devices based on "hardware eligibility, reliability metrics, age of device and other factors that impact the upgrade experience." Microsoft expects the rollout of the free Windows 11 update offer to be completed by mid-2022. Stricter Windows 11 system requirements When Windows 11 was first announced, Microsoft released new system requirements to upgrade to the new operating system. These requirements include a TPM 2.0 security processor and newer CPUs that have been shown to provide a more reliable, crash-free experience when running Windows 11. However, these new system requirements exclude many CPUs that are more than capable of running Windows 11. For example, almost all Intel 7th generation and AMD Zen 1 CPUs are incompatible with Windows 11 and will not be offered the upgrade. The only Intel 7th generation CPU that Microsoft has recently marked as compatible is the Intel Core 7820HQ, which coincidentally is the CPU that powers Microsoft's Surface Studio 2 devices. Microsoft has posted the full list of compatible Intel CPUs and AMD CPUs. These new requirements have been very frustrating for many users who are flawlessly running Windows 10 but must purchase new hardware to upgrade to Windows 11. The good news is that Microsoft will continue supporting Windows 10 through October 14th, 2025, for those who have incompatible hardware or are not ready to upgrade to Windows 11. For those who stick with Windows 10, Microsoft is releasing the new Windows 10 21H2 feature update this fall. Windows 11 is packed with new features For those eagerly awaiting the release of Windows 11, you will be happy to know that it is packed with new features and a completely redesigned user interface. Windows 11 includes the 'Sun Valley' user interface refresh. This UI overhaul includes rounded corners for Windows, updated icons, new sounds, dialogs, animations, and modernized controls. The most significant change is the new Start Menu, which is now centered by default and has a redesigned appearance. For those, who prefer their Start Menu left-aligned, Windows 11 allows that as well. New Windows 11 Start Menu Other highlighted features include: A Widgets feature that gives you quick access to personalized news stories, weather forecasts, stock market information, and more. A new Snap Layouts feature that lets you quickly arrange your open windows how you like them. Microsoft Teams is now integrated directly within Windows 11. DNS-over-HTTPS support to allow encrypted DNS lookups for more privacy to and to bypass censorship. An optimized user interface for the Windows 11 File Explorer. An updated and more organized Settings interface. Improved virtual desktops. A new Windows Clipboard. Enhanced HDR gaming support. While Windows 11 is filled with new features, unfortunately, quite a few Windows 10 features that we have come to love are missing from the new operating system. For example, you can no longer right-click on the taskbar to open a context menu to launch Task Manager, show the desktop, or access various settings. Taskbar context menu removed Another feature that is missing, and is annoying for many users, is the inability to ungroup open windows for the same app. For example, Windows 10 allows you to show all open Notepad windows on the taskbar, but Windows 11 will now combine them into a single entry. Windows 11 also does not allow you to drag a file on an open taskbar window to launch that file automatically. For those who regularly use these features, you may find Windows 11 a little difficult to get used to. Thankfully, Microsoft is aware of these concerns and will hopefully add the missing features into future versions of Windows 11. Windows 11 will be released on October 5th to newer devices
  8. Microsoft today confirmed that Windows 11 will be available from October 5. On October 5, Microsoft will start the roll out of free upgrade to Windows 11 to eligible Windows 10 PCs. New PCs will also come pre-loaded with Windows 11 from this date. The free Windows 11 upgrade will be offered in a phased manner with a focus on quality. New eligible devices will be offered the upgrade first. Microsoft expects all eligible devices to be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022. 9. Microsoft is widely expected to launch Windows 11 in October this year, but according to the latest rumour, we may know exactly when in a week or two. According to Windows Central’s Zac Bowden, Microsoft is expected to announce the release date in the next week or two. Zac expects that release date should be on the 19th of October. The operating system is expected to first show up in new hardware before rolling out as an upgrade to existing Windows 10 PCs with the right hardware at the end of this year or early next. via Microsofters Rumour: Microsoft may announce the release date of Windows 11 in early September
  10. Earlier this month, a Microsoft senior official confirmed that Windows 11 24H2 was not yet generally available for all eligible systems in response to a report we published. While that may have been disappointing from the perspective of an enthusiast, the good thing is it should not be all that long before we get the next feature update. In its recently published blog post about improved Copilot data protection, Microsoft confirmed when Windows 11 version 24H2, the 2024 annual feature update for Windows 11, will be released. Microsoft wrote: Thus it looks like Windows 11 24H2 will be out as a preview towards the end of this month as a C-release and the official general availability for all compatible systems will be on October 8th 2024 via the monthly Patch Tuesday. It is noteworthy that Windows 11 24H2 is already available for Copilot+ devices and the October 2024 Patch Tuesday will bring to the remaining compatible systems. For those who may not be familiar, Copilot+ PCs (both Arm64 and AMD64) have a minimum criteria of 40 NPU TOPS. If you wondering whether your PC is compatible with 24H2, Microsoft is not altering the system requirements for the new version, though devices running very old processors will no longer be able to bypass the requirements. The October 8 2024 Patch Tuesday update will also see another major change. The company announced yesterday that Quality Updates will now be pushed during the initial provisioning (OOBE) on Intune-managed devices. Besides these changes, Microsoft has also introduced a way to deliver cumulative updates via checkpoints, although it is causing trouble at the moment leading to MSU install failures.
