Do you remember Paint 3D? Back in the days when Microsoft was obsessed not with AI but with 3D, Mixed Reality, seriously uncool Windows 10 update names, and other interesting stuff. Despite the effort, Paint 3D failed to become as iconic as its classic predecessor, which is why Microsoft abandoned the idea and focused on upgrading the good old Paint with some quite useful features. As of right now, Paint 3D is no longer available in the Microsoft Store, but it does not mean it is now lost media. In fact, you can still install Paint 3D if you are interested in giving this interesting piece of software another try. Although Paint 3D was conceived in the early days of Windows 10, it still works perfectly fine, even on the latest Windows 11 updates, such as version 24H2. How to install Paint 3D on Windows 11 and 10? Installing Paint 3D on Windows 10 and 11 is pretty simple. All you need is the appx file of the version you want. You can download a collection of recent Paint 3D versions using this link (this includes VCLibs packages) or this link (without packages, via @TheBobPony). Also, there is a separate collection of very old Paint 3D releases by @gus33000, which go all the way back to 2016. Download the necessary files and extract them anywhere convenient. Open the folder with the install files and find the appx file you want. For example, Microsoft.MSPaint_2024.2405.19017.0.AppxBundle. Tip: Click View > Show > File Extensions to show extension files. Alternatively, sort the folder by Type > APPX file. Open the appx file and click "Install." You can also tick the "Launch when ready" option so that Windows will open Paint 3D once the process is done. Enjoy some 3D in your Paint. Finally, you can install Windows 10 from scratch using Microsoft's official ISO images. Each consumer installation still has Paint 3D pre-installed. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Download Paint 3D app now before it's gone from the Microsoft Store
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it is retiring the Paint 3D app. It will no longer receive updates or be available in the Microsoft Store starting November 4th. Microsoft updated the official 'Deprecated features for Windows client' list with the following message: The Paint 3D app was first announced with high expectations as part of the Windows 10 Creators Update release. Despite having some innovative features for 3D creation, Paint 3D didn't catch much of consumers' attention. After the initial release, Microsoft even had plans to replace the classic Paint app with the Paint 3D app. After receiving feedback from consumers that Paint 3D did not have all the features to replace the classic Paint app, Microsoft announced that both apps would coexist. Along with Paint 3D, Microsoft also launched Remix 3D, a website for consumers to browse, distribute, and download 3D objects. Consumers could download 3D objects from the Remix 3D website inside the Paint 3D app and do further edits on them. In 2020, Microsoft discontinued the Remix 3D website and encouraged users to download their 3D creations. Over the past few months, Microsoft has been regularly updating the classic Paint app with new improvements and features. Last month, Microsoft announced that the Paint app would be getting generative AI features such as Image Creator, Cocreator, and more. Since today is November 4th, users who are still interested in the Paint 3D app should probably download the installer before Microsoft pulls it from the Microsoft Store. Existing installations of Paint 3D will continue to work. This marks the end of an era for Microsoft's foray into the 3D creation space with Paint 3D. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Paint 3D for Windows 10 had a Remote Code Execution flaw
Karlston posted a news in Security & Privacy News
Paint 3D for Windows 10 had a Remote Code Execution flaw Microsoft’s Paint 3D was never popular, but it turns out the app was also actually dangerous to your system health after ZDI researchers discovered a Remote Code Execution Flaw in the 3D modelling software. The exploit, which was discovered by fuzzing, requires a user to load a compromised file and has now been patched by Microsoft in the latest Patch Tuesday. The issue is described in CVE-2021-31946 and reads as such: Microsoft Paint 3D GLB File Parsing Out-Of-Bounds Read Remote Code Execution Vulnerability This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Microsoft Paint 3D. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file. The specific flaw exists within the parsing of GLB files. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of user-supplied data, which can result in a read past the end of an allocated data structure. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process at low integrity. The flaw had a medium severity, as it required that the attacker had already escalated their privileges on your system. Microsoft has issued an update to the software which fixes the issue, but Windows 11 users need not worry, as the software is no longer pre-installed in that OS. Microsoft is retiring the Paint 3D Windows app on November 4
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Back in 2016, Microsoft was all about 3D. It revealed its HoloLens technology, and it wanted its software to offer 3D features as well. That's why the company launched a revamp of its Paint app for Windows 10 as Paint 3D in October 2016. Instead of just creating 2D artwork like what you would make on the older Paint app, Microsoft wanted anyone to create 3D artwork with this new app. Indeed, it was initially designed to completely replace the older Paint app for Windows 10. However, the reception to the new Paint 3D app did not go as well as expected, and Microsoft continued to support the older Paint app alongside Paint 3D. In 2021, the release of Windows 10 build 21332 removed Paint 3D from clean installs of the OS. Now, it looks like the end is finally in sight for the Paint 3D app, three years after it was removed from new Windows 10 installs. As posted by X user @phantomofearth, anyone who still runs the app will now see a banner on top. It states that Paint 3D will no longer be available to download from the Microsoft Store after November 4. Updates for the app will also end on that day as well. The retirement of Paint 3D comes even as Microsoft has been adding new features for the regular Paint app for Windows 10 and 11. Members of the Windows Insider Program have been able to check out new functions in recent months. They have included a new size slider for pencils, brushes, and eraser tools, along with some new features for its pen and eraser options. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post.
