  1. Although Windows 10 is a few months away from the end of support, Microsoft still releases monthly non-security preview updates for the outgoing operating system. Today, the company pushed KB5058481, build number 19045.5917, for version 22H2. It restores the previously removed calendar flyout clock (why it was removed remains unknown) and improves the Rich Calendar feature. Also, the update contains some fixes for GDI and WinSaS. Here is the changelog: Known issues only include one bug that causes Noto fonts to appear blurry in Chromium-based browsers on systems with Chinese, Japanese, and Korean localizations. You can download KB5058481 in Settings > Windows Update. The update is optional, so you need to download it manually. Alternatively, get it from the Microsoft Update Catalog. The support article for KB5058481 is available here. If you are on Windows 11, you can check out details about its non-security updates here (version 23H2 and 22H2) and here (version 24H2). 2. It is the last Tuesday of the month, which means it's time for another C-release or non-security preview optional update. The new update is out for Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 as the March non-security preview update under KB5058502 and builds 22621.5413 and 22631.5413. The new release brings improvements for the Settings app with a new FAQ page related to system information. Aside from this, Widgets on the Lock screen have also received new customization options. Speaking of more customization, Taskbar app pinning has also improved with new options for Admins. Copilot key customization is here, too. The full release notes are given below: [Copilot] New! You can open Copilot on Windows with Win + C. You can personalize your Copilot key and Win + C experience at any time with the existing “Customize Copilot key on keyboard” under Settings > Personalization > Text input. For Enterprise users, see Updated Windows and Microsoft 365 Coplot Chat experience. New! To start Press to talk with Copilot on Windows, hold the Copilot key—or Win + C if your keyboard doesn’t have one—for two seconds. Press Esc or stay silent for a few seconds to end the call. Use Alt + Spacebar to talk with Copilot on Windows. You can interact with Copilot using your voice and receive instant responses while continuing your tasks. [Search on Taskbar] Improved support for web search providers in Windows Search for the European Economic Area (EEA), including with increased discoverability. [Settings] New! Find answers to commonly asked questions about your PC and Windows 11 in the new FAQs section under Settings > System > About page. It covers topics like system setup, performance, and compatibility—all in one place. [Taskbar] New! Admins can configure taskbar policies so users can unpin specific apps, ensuring they are not repinned during the next policy refresh. To turn on this feature, use the new PinGeneration option. [Widgets] New! There are some new updates to the new Widgets on Lock experience for devices in the EEA. In addition to accessibility and craftsmanship improvements, the Lock screen weather widget now supports customization. To configure your weather widget, go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen and select the “Customize widget” option from the weather widget more options menu. More widgets will be customizable in the future. [Windows Share] New! When you drag a local file from File Explorer or your desktop, a tray appears at the top of your screen. Drop the file into a suggested app or select More to open the Windows share window. [Input] Fixed: Voice typing won't start from the touch keyboard when using the Chinese (Simplified) narrow layout. When using the Symbols section of the touch keyboard, pressing the key to change pages might unexpectedly insert a character into password fields. [Voice access] Fixed: Voice access might stop responding with error “working on it” when dictating. Microsoft notes one known issue for the release wherein Noto fonts are broken on systems with certain languages. To download the optional update, head over to Windows Settings > Update & Security and select Check for Updates, and it should be available for download in the Optional Updates area. Alternatively, manual downloading can also be done from the Microsoft Update Catalog website here. The official support article can be viewed here on Microsoft's official website. 3. The February 2025 non-security updates are now available for Windows 11 version 24H2 (users with older Windows 11 releases can check out this article, while Windows 10 users can check out this article). KB5052093 is now available with build number 26100.3323. It fixes quite a lot of bugs, such as incorrect drive type in Task Manager, various File Explorer issues, audio bugs, and more. Here are the changes and improvements that Microsoft is rolling out gradually: And here is the rest of the changelog with all the additional improvements: Known issues in KB5052093 include problems installing security updates on systems with certain Citrix components and issues with Roblox on PCs with ARM processors. Microsoft is still working on resolving the latter, which dates back to October 2024, when version 24H2 was initially launched. You can download Windows 11 version 24H2 build 26100.3323 (KB5052093) from Settings > Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog via this link. As usual, feel free to skip this update since it is not mandatory to install. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 4. Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2 are not the only ones getting February 2025 non-security updates. Microsoft also prepared one for those still rocking the good old Windows 10 version 22H2. You can now download KB5052077 (build number 19045.5555) with a few important fixes for issues with OpenSSH, Narrator, IME, and more. Here are the update highlights: Other improvements include the following: Two known issues remain unfixed for now: one with Citrix components preventing the installation of certain updates and the other with the System Guard Runtime Monitor Broker (Microsoft says not to worry about this one). They will be fixed in a future update. You can download KB5052077 in Settings > Windows Update (or from the Microsoft Update Catalog). If you do not need any of those fixes, feel free to skip this update, as it does not contain any security updates and is thus not mandatory. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 5. Windows 11 users with PCs running version 23H2 can download a new non-security update with a few important fixes and improvements. The update under KB5052094, build numbers 22631.4974 and 22621.4974 (version 22H2, but only Education and Enterprise editions), is optional, so feel free to ignore it if you do not need any of the following changes. Here is what is rolling out gradually (changes from the list might show up in a few days after installing the update): Other changes in KB5052094 include long-anticipated fixes for OpenSSH issues, DWM bugs, and more: There is still one known issue with Citrix components that prevents the operating system from finishing installing security updates: Symptom Workaround All users Devices that have certain Citrix components installed might be unable to complete installation of the January 2025 Windows security update. This issue was observed on devices with Citrix Session Recording Agent (SRA) version 2411. The 2411 version of this application was released in December 2024. Affected devices might initially download and apply the January 2025 Windows security update correctly, such as via the Windows Update page in Settings. However, when restarting the device to complete the update installation, an error message with text similar to “Something didn’t go as planned. No need to worry – undoing changes” appears. The device will then revert to the Windows updates previously present on the device. This issue likely affects a limited number of organizations as version 2411 of the SRA application is a new version. Home users are not expected to be affected by this issue. Citrix has documented this issue, including a workaround, which can be performed prior to installing the January 2025 Windows security update. For details, see Citrix’s documentation. Microsoft is working with Citrix to address this issue and will update this documentation once a resolution is available. You can download KB5052094 by heading to Settings > Windows Update and checking for available updates then pressing "Download and install" next to the release. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. 6. Microsoft has released an optional update for Windows 11 21H2 (that's the generally available version) that updates Windows 11 to build 22000.918. It is a Cumulative Update, (KB5016691), referred to as "C" release and does not contain any security fixes. It is the same update that was offered to Windows Insiders a week and a half ago in the Release Preview Channel. This update will eventually make its way to the Patch Tuesday release in September, but you can install it now if you want. The update brings improvements to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, file compression, Microsoft Edge for IE mode, and more. Here are the major highlights in this update: Addresses an issue related to USB printing that might cause your printer to malfunction after you restart it or reinstall it. Addresses an issue that prevents Windows 11 SE from trusting some Microsoft Store applications. This might prevent you from downloading the untrusted app. Addresses an issue that might cause certain Bluetooth audio headsets to stop playing after a progress bar adjustment. Addresses a known issue that causes Microsoft Edge to stop responding when you use IE mode. This issue also prevents you from interacting with a dialog. Here are the fixes: New! We gave IT admins the ability to remotely add languages and language-related features. Additionally, they can now manage language scenarios across several endpoint managers. New! We compressed a file regardless of its size if you have configured Server Message Block (SMB) Compression. New! We enhanced Microsoft Defender for Endpoint’s ability to identify and intercept ransomware and advanced attacks We fixed an issue that causes ServerAssignedConfigurations to be null in a few full configuration scenarios. We fixed an issue that affects the automatic high dynamic range (Auto HDR) feature for cross-adapter resource scan-out (CASO)-capable GPU drivers. We fixed a known issue that causes Microsoft Edge to stop responding when you use IE mode. This issue also prevents you from interacting with a dialog. We fixed an issue that prevents virtualized App-V Microsoft Office applications from opening or causes them to stop working. We fixed an issue that might cause the deployment of the Windows Hello for Business certificate to fail in certain circumstances after you reset a device. We fixed multiple issues related to USB printing, such as: A printer malfunctions after you restart or reinstall it Being in the wrong mode after you switch from an Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) Class Driver to an independent hardware vendor (IHV) driver Experiencing bidirectional communication issues that prevent you from accessing device features We fixed an issue that affects the ProjectionManager.StartProjectingAsync API. This issue stops some locales from connecting to Miracast Sinks. We fixed an issue that degrades BitLocker performance. We fixed an issue that prevents Windows 11 SE from trusting some Microsoft Store applications. We fixed an issue that prevents HyperVisor Code Integrity from being enabled automatically on systems that have Arm64 processors. We fixed an issue that stops non-Windows devices from authenticating. This issue occurs when they connect to a Windows-based remote desktop and use a smart card to authenticate. We fixed an issue that causes the Resultant Set of Policy tool (Rsop.msc) to stop working when it processes 1,000 or more “File System” security settings. We fixed an issue that causes the Take a Test app to remove all policies related to lockdown enforcement when you close the app. We fixed an issue that causes the Settings app to stop working on server domain controllers (DCs) when accessing the Privacy > Activity history page. We fixed an issue that might cause certain Bluetooth audio headsets to stop playing after a progress bar adjustment. This issue affects modern systems that support Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) offload. We fixed an issue that prevents devices from receiving an offer from Windows Update for the same extension driver when that extension driver is already installed without the base driver. We fixed a race condition that causes the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) to stop working on Active Directory domain controllers. This issue occurs when LSASS processes simultaneous Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) over Transport Layer Security (TLS) requests that fail to decrypt. The exception code is 0xc0000409 (STATUS_STACK_BUFFER_OVERRUN). We fixed an issue that affects a lookup for a nonexistent security ID (SID) from the local domain using read-only domain controller (RODC). The lookup unexpectedly returns the STATUS_TRUSTED_DOMAIN_FAILURE error instead of STATUS_NONE_MAPPED or STATUS_SOME_MAPPED. We fixed an issue that might cause the Local Security Authority Server Service (LSASS) to leak tokens. This issue affects devices that have installed Windows updates dated June 14, 2022 or later. This issue occurs when the device performs a specific form of service for user (S4U) in a non-Trusted Computing Base (TCB) Windows service that runs as Network Service. Microsoft also disclosed that it contains a new service stack (from a previous build) that should improve the quality of Windows Updates: Windows 11 servicing stack update - 22000.910 This update makes quality improvements to the servicing stack, which is the component that installs Windows updates. Servicing stack updates (SSU) ensure that you have a robust and reliable servicing stack so that your devices can receive and install Microsoft updates. There is one Known Issue for this build, however it mainly only applies to IT admins, and shouldn't affect consumers (home users). After installing this update, XPS Viewer might be unable to open XML Paper Specification (XPS) documents in some non-English languages, including some Japanese and Chinese character encodings. This issue affects both XML Paper Specification (XPS) and Open XML Paper Specification (OXPS) files. When encountering this issue, you may receive an error, "This page cannot be displayed" within XPS Viewer or it might stop responding and have high CPU usage with continually increasing memory usage. When the error is encountered, if XPS Viewer is not closed it might reach up to 2.5GB of memory usage before closing unexpectedly. This issue does not affect most home users. The XPS Viewer is no longer installed by default as of Windows 10, version 1803 and must be manually installed. There's a couple of ways to get this update, you can Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. In the Optional updates available area, you’ll find the link to download and install the update. You can also grab it from the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it manually for ARM and x64 versions of Windows 11. The official update notice is linked here. Windows 11 optional update (KB5016691) fixes USB printing, Bluetooth audio, and more
  7. Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 out-of-band (OOB) optional update for version 22H2. The new update is under KB5019311 (build 22621.525), and it is a non-security release which fixes an issue related to the installation media. The update is said to fix localization issues for Windows setup files which was preventing the successful creation of installation media. The release notes for KB5019311 say: Highlights Addresses localization issues for some setup files. These issues might stop you from creating installation media for non-English languages. Improvements This non-security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include: Addresses localization issues for some setup files. These issues might stop you from creating installation media for non-English languages. Since it is an OOB update, it can be downloaded manually on Microsoft's Update Catalog website here. Only, go for it though in case you are facing issues with creating installation media for Windows 11 22H2 on non-English languages. For others, it is not essential. While we are on the topic of Windows 11 22H2 and installation problems, there are also reports of another bug which is interrupting the upgrade process. According to these reports, the 22H2 feature update is failing with an error code "0x800f0806". This is apparently happening when trying to do an in-place upgrade via Windows Update in Settings due to some compatibility issue or something similar. A clean install is seemingly working fine. In case you are facing a similar problem, you can try some of the workarounds outlined in the article. KB5019311 (build 22621.525) OOB update fixes Windows 11 22H2 installation media issue
  8. Windows 10 users who do not plan to update to Windows 11 due to personal preferences, incompatible hardware, or other reasons can grab a new optional update with several quality-of-life improvements. The titles of pop-up windows and tabs are wrong. It addresses an issue that affects the lasso tool in a graphics editing program. It stops the start of daylight saving time in Jordan at the end of October 2022. The Jordan time zone will permanently shift to the UTC + 3 time zone. You can download KB5018482 from Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog (manual installation). Note that this is a non-security optional update, and you are not obliged to install it immediately. Those already running Windows 11 with its latest cumulative update might be interested in checking out the hidden tablet-optimized taskbar that also enables a "compact taskbar" on regular desktops without touchscreens. KB5018482 for Windows 10 is out with fixes for gaming, updates, time zones, and Edge
  9. Towards the end of last month, Microsoft released its non-security Windows preview update (C- release) for Windows 11 and Windows 10 under KB5040527 and KB5040525 respectively. However, a few days later, the company also quietly released one for Windows 11 version 24H2 (2024 update) as well. The changes have been classified under two heads, gradual rollout and normal rollout, effectively indicating how users will be receiving the features once they update: The full changelog for Windows 11 24H2 update KB5040529 is given below: You can manually download the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog website at this link and can find the official support article here.
