Editing a transcript in Clipchamp will soon automatically trim your video to match. Microsoft's video editor Clipchamp is about to get a powerful feature for trimming videos. Soon, the app will support trimming a video by editing a transcript. Clipchamp is the built-in video editor on Windows 11. There are also versions of Clipchamp available on the web and for iOS. At this time, you cannot use Clipchamp on Android devices. Microsoft purchased Clipchamp in 2021 and has steadily expanded the feature set of the app. It's designed to be a basic video editor, not a competitor to Adobe Premiere Pro or more powerful tools. The work version of Clipchamp comes with select Microsoft 365 business and education licenses. It supports branded video templates, has a range of AI features, and can record your screen and webcam for creating presentations. Clipchamp already supports generating AI transcripts for dialogue within videos. But a new feature set to ship this month will allow you to edit the text within the transcript and then have the corresponding portion of the video removed. The capability makes it possible to trim segments of a video without having to deal with the timeline, lowering the learning curve for video editing and streamlining the process of creating videos centered around dialogue. Microsoft's Anastasia Passaris announced the feature in a Tech Community post and outlined how to use the feature: Open a new or existing video project in Clipchamp that contains spoken dialogue. Select the Transcript tab from the panel on the right-hand side of the editor. Select Generate transcript to start the transcription process. Highlight any text in the transcript that you’d like to remove, then select Delete. This will remove that portion of the video from the timeline. The Captions tab is being replaced by the Transcript tab in Clipchamp. Caption-related features are still in the app but they now live in a different section. AI-generated transcripts include timestamps to make it easy to jump to different parts of a video. With the new feature, you can delete off-topic dialogue and have your video trimmed accordingly. Transcript-based editing will roll out in June 2025 to Clipchamp for work users. Quick and easy video editing Clipchamp is an easy-to-use video editor with a growing list of capabilities. It's especially useful for making presentations and content centered around dialogue. (Image credit: Future) Transcripts and captions are important because they make content more accessible. They also can help with retention since people can listen to a presenter speak while also reading the same information. In the days of social media, it's also useful to have captions because people can watch your content while it's muted. I used to work in television and often repurposed content for the web. Transcribing videos used to take ages. As important as it was, transcribing by hand took a considerable amount of time. Clipchamp's AI-generated transcriptions save quite a bit of time and the ability to trim videos using those transcriptions is a natural extension of the feature. I've reviewed and re-reviewed Clipchamp since it was purchased by Microsoft. It's a solid video editor that has a lot of capabilities centered around productivity. If your business or organization already has a license that includes Clipchamp for work, I'd suggest giving the app a try for content such as walkthroughs, onboarding videos, and presentations. Clipchamp also has a version for personal use, which I use to create highlight reels for my American football team. That version has a slightly different feature set but it's also easy to use. Clipchamp now lets you trim videos by cutting out transcripts
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Microsoft announced a new feature for its cloud-based video editor, Clipchamp. Now, users can trim and cut unwanted parts of videos by simply deleting portions of the transcript that were generated by Clipchamp's built-in AI-powered transcribe tool. In the announcement post, the company says this tool is quicker and easier to edit than the timeline for videos with a lot of spoken content or dialogue. These include meeting recordings (cut those off-topic discussions or "your mic is off" exclamations or other technical issues), webinars and presentations (remove filler words, trim lengthy Q&A sessions, etc.), and podcasts (good for deleting mistakes or other unwanted content). You can try the new feature by opening a video in Clipchamp and selecting the Transcript tab on the right side of the editor. Click "Generate transcript," and once the app has generated it, select portions of text you want to delete. Image credit: Microsoft Microsoft adds that the Transcript tab will replace the Captions tab in the Property panel. However, the app still allows you to edit and download captions by clicking the CC button. The new transcript editing tool will be available to Clipchamp users with work accounts this month. Later, Microsoft will release the feature to users with personal accounts as well. You can read more about the transcript-based video editing in Clipchamp in the announcement post on the official Tech Community website. In case you missed it, at the beginning of this year, Microsoft announced a series of new features that are coming soon to Clipchamp. They include dark and light mode, improved asset grouping, a cleaner video editor, precise editing with timestamps, and more. Some of those features are already available to users with personal and work accounts. Source Hope you enjoyed this news post. Microsoft announces 'Templates,' a new feature coming to Clipchamp for work users
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Microsoft has announced templates, a new feature for Clipchamp that's meant to simplify and streamline the video creation process across organizations. According to the company: Templates can come in handy in situations like YouTube intros, educational content, onboarding videos, product demos, and more. When you create a template in Clipchamp, it can be saved in OneDrive or SharePoint, and you can easily share it with members of your team via Outlook. Here's how it works: After adding the template, you can replace the placeholder media and text. This feature will be available for Clipchamp users with personal accounts starting this month. Clipchamp has gotten several notable updates in the past year. For example, back in February, Microsoft rolled out features like the ability to switch between light and dark mode, a user interface revamp, and more to users with personal accounts, while users with work accounts started seeing those changes a month later in March. My favorite free video editor just got a big update, and the difference is night and day
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Clipchamp has a cleaner interface for editing videos and some handy new features following a recent update. Microsoft's free video editor, Clipchamp, has a handful of welcome features on the way. The updated video editor will support switching between dark and light mode, feature improved asset grouping, and have a cleaner video editor. Clipchamp will also gain timestamp support, which should all more precise editing. The new Clipchamp features are rolling out to those using a Clipchamp Personal account this month. Those using a Work account should receive the new features in March. Microsoft announced the new features in a recent Tech Community post. I've included the full list of changes shared by Microsoft below. My favorite addition is timestamp support. Most of the videos I make appear on social media, so I need to trim them to specific lengths and make cuts that sync with music. Doing so will be a bit easier after the update. I also appreciate the cleaner video editing experience that comes as a result of the changes. What is the best free video editor? Clipchamp has an interface that's easy to use and an impressive library of features when you use the free version of the app. (Image credit: Daniel Rubino) Clipchamp is the default video editor on Windows 11. It's also available on the web and has an iOS app. Unfortunately, Microsoft has not made an Android version of Clipchamp yet, despite having purchased Clipchamp in 2021. Clipchamp is a basic video editor designed to have a low learning curve. It's not meant to compete with Da Vinci Resolve or paid options like Adobe Premiere Pro. "Create videos with a few clicks in Clipchamp, the easy video editor by Microsoft," reads the app's description on the Microsoft Store. I've used Clipchamp for years to make highlight reels for my American football team and to keep up to date with what's new in the app. The drag-and-drop interface is similar to what you're likely used to if you edit videos on a smartphone. While the app isn't as powerful as other options on Windows 11, it does have features required to make more complex content, such as a multi-layered timeline, green screen support, and subtitle generation. The app also supports AI templates and AI voice generation. Some of Clipchamp's features require you to have a paid subscription but the free version is solid and feature rich. If you have a Microsoft 365 account, you'll get some extra perks in Clipchamp. When I need to sit down and make a complex video with a ton of different elements, I open Da Vinci Resolve, but when I need a clean and simple video editor to make content for social media, Clipchamp is my go-to app. Depending on your workflow, Clipchamp may be the best free video editor for you. Clipchamp: What's new Dark and light mode The ability to switch between dark and light mode was a highly requested feature by users, and now it’s possible! Dark and light mode ensures a comfortable editing environment and suits different preferences, whether you are working during the day or night. The Clipchamp interface will automatically shift to dark or light mode based on your device settings. It can also be manually changed by selecting Settings > General. Improved asset grouping The new and improved grouping functionality allows you to select multiple elements, such as music, text, and visuals, and group or collapse them into one track item. Previously, grouping would link selected track items and keep them displayed as they were. This new functionality simplifies the timeline layout, allowing you to create sections or chapters in your video, shift them around the timeline with ease, and keep everything in the group in place. The group’s thumbnail shows the type and number of items each group contains, and the visual items in the group can still be edited or deleted from the stage, providing both flexibility and organization in your editing process. To use this capability, select the items you’d like to group, then right click and select Group. A cleaner video editor We’ve redesigned the editing interface to make it simplistic and beginner-friendly so you can focus more on creativity and less on navigating actions. Some notable changes to the editor include how you: Collapse the sidebar and timeline Zoom in and out in the timeline Use full screen mode playback Undo and redo actions Change the aspect ratio of a video Add AI captions to video Precise editing in the timeline with timestamps Making accurate timeline edits is now even easier with the addition of timestamps. Hovering on the timeline with your cursor will show the timestamp of where you are in the video, while trimming items from the left handle will automatically display the item’s start time and trimming from the right handle will display the clip duration. Microsoft announces new features coming to Clipchamp in 2025
Karlston posted a news in Software News
In a recent post on the Microsoft 365 Insider Blog, Redmond announced new updates coming to Clipchamp, its "quick and easy" video editing tool. Users on a personal account will start seeing the updates this month, while those on a work account will get them next month. When you get the update, the first major change you’ll probably notice is the ability to switch between light and dark mode. As expected, Clipchamp will comply with your system settings, but you can override that under General in the in-app settings. The editing interface, likely the most used part of Clipchamp, is getting a redesign that Microsoft claims is aimed at making the interface "simplistic and beginner-friendly." Notable changes focus on making navigation more straightforward. The sidebar and timeline can now be collapsed, zooming in and out on the timeline is more precise, and full-screen playback is available. Undo and redo actions have been adjusted for better control, aspect ratios can be changed as needed, and AI-generated captions are now an option for videos. Still on editing, Microsoft has added timestamps in this version of Clipchamp. Now, when you place your cursor on the timeline, a timestamp of your position in the video will pop up. To make it easier to manage elements in a Clipchamp project, Microsoft is improving the grouping functionality for assets. With the update, after selecting elements like music, text, or images, you can right-click and select Group to combine them into one track item. Grouped assets are also represented on the timeline with a thumbnail and additional details, including the number of elements in a group and an itemized count by type. Clipchamp has come a long way since Microsoft acquired it in 2021. Since then, the platform has received features like the AI suggestion button, which highlights silent parts of a video that users can choose to delete, and another feature that lets users insert audio recordings into videos. Microsoft Clipchamp adds audio recording and text to speech editing improvements
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Microsoft first acquired the Clipchamp easy-to-use video editor in 2021. Since then, the editor has become a part of Microsoft 365 Personal or Family plans, and more recently for Microsoft 365 commercial subscriptions. It also added its own Premium plan for people who want to use it without a Microsoft 365 subscription. Today, the Office Insider blog announced some new audio features that are rolling out to Clipchamp users. One lets the user insert an audio recording into their video. They can click on the Audio option in the app's Record and Create tab, and then they start recording their audio clip, up to 30 minutes in length. After the recording is done, they can make edits to it in the app's timeline. This feature is available for all Personal account users. Clipchamp also has some improvements to its text-to-speech feature. Microsoft stated: The app also lets users change the speed of the text-to-speech audio as well. This is now available for all Personal Clipchamp accounts, and it has just started rolling out for commercial accounts. Microsoft also revealed an upcoming Clipchamp audio feature called silent removal. If you have an audio track that might have some extended periods of no sound in them, the feature will remove some or all of these silent parts of your track automatically. This will be rolled out later in February as a public preview for Personal Clipchamp accounts. When it comes out of its public preview testing period, it will be available only for Clipchamp Premium subscribers. Just a heads up: Clipchamp Premium costs $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year. It also includes features like 4K video resolution support, premium stock images, videos, and audios, more filters and effects and backup features. Source -
Microsoft's Clipchamp video editing tool adds a fast way to remove long silences
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Microsoft is once again updating its Clipchamp video editing tool, which was acquired in 2021 and has since been incorporated into its Microsoft 365 consumer and commercial subscriptions. Today, the company announced some updates to Clipchamp, including a new way to quickly edit out long silences in videos. In a post on the Microsoft 365 Insider blog, the company said this new feature, which was released as a public preview earlier in 2024, is now officially available for Microsoft 365 Family and Work accounts. The feature lets people who are editing videos remove silent portions of audio tracks with the use of AI programming. Clipchamp users can simply click on the AI suggestions button that's found on the app's toolbar and then review the silent parts of a video that it detects. The user can then delete those silent parts, either separately or all of them at once. Microsoft also mentioned some other smaller updates that are now a part of Clipchamp. They include a way to rotate any media item in the editing tool. Users can now also edit multiple items at once: The Shift key can also be used to select multiple track items at once and add them all to the timeline at once. Finally, anyone with a personal account can now get some new copyright-free audio tracks to put in videos: Keep in mind that Microsoft also offers a Clipchamp Premium subscription for $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year. It adds additional features like 4K video resolution support, more filters and effects, and backup features. Source -
Microsoft starts rolling out complimentary premium filters for Clipchamp video editor
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Clipchamp, a Microsoft-owned cloud-based video editor, has become a little more attractive to Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office subscribers. Microsoft not only simplified the subscription fees; the company has now offered “Premium filters and effects” for free users as well. One of the first things Microsoft did after acquiring Clipchamp in September 2021 was to ditch the complex pricing structure. Earlier, the video editor had four subscription tiers. The Free, Creator, Business, and Business Platinum subscriptions ranged from free to $40 a month. Microsoft brought down the number of subscriptions to just two: Free and $12 per month. The Essentials subscription tier, costing $12/month, granted access to “Premium filters and effects”. Clipchamp’s effects and filters library for images and videos currently offers 57 filters, of which, nine are listed as premium. These include warm countryside, dreamscape, soft B&W, winter sunset, cool tone, and sunrise. There are plenty of sound clips like hip hop, energy intro, bouncy walk instrumental, dark tense trailer, whoosh lower pitch. But dozens of additional music and SFX filters are listed as premium. Moving forward, Microsoft will unlock access to the Premium package for free to those with a Microsoft 365 subscription. In other words, the company is essentially adding another perk to the “Free” tier of Clipchamp, and it is only applicable to those with a Microsoft 365 subscription. Incidentally, subscribing to the Essentials package gets users to access to content backup, premium audio, image, and video stock in addition to a brand kit with logos, colors, and fonts. This is, in addition to the premium filters and effects. Microsoft has already started asking free users, who want to try Clipchamp Essentials, to link a Microsoft Account before subscribing. In other words, in order to use Clipchamp and any of its features, users would need to have a Microsoft account. Microsoft's Clipchamp video editor gets new image background removal features and more
Karlston posted a news in Software News
Microsoft continues to add new features to its easy-to-use ClipChamp video editor. In a new post on the Microsoft 365 Insider blog, the company reveals two new AI-based features that are now rolling out to both Personal and Work accounts. One of the new features is background removal. Microsoft says Clipchamp users can simply right-click on any image in the editor and then select the Remove Background option in the menu to remove that background. It added: The other new feature that's rolling out now for Clipchamp is noise suppression. Sometimes, you may record a video that has noise in the background that you don't want in the final product, like kids playing or cars driving by. In this case, you can go into Clipchamp's Audio tab and then click on the Noise suppression selection. The editor should automatically get rid of that annoying background noise. While these two new features are now rolling out for Clipchamp work and personal accounts, there's no word on when they will be added to the educational accounts. Microsoft first announced that Clipchamp was being included for Microsoft 365 Educational subscribers back in July. Clipchamp is scheduled to get a much bigger feature in the near future. A recent entry in the Microsoft 365 roadmap website stated that in September, Clipchamp will add Copilot generative AI support. The entry claims that Copilot in Clipchamp will "write a bespoke script, source high quality stock footage, and assemble a video project with music, voiceover, text overlays and transitions" with just some text prompts when the new feature is added.
