  1. It has been almost a week since Apple introduced the first USB-C iPhones, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch Series 9. Now, the company has started the global rollout of its latest operating system for iPhone, iOS 17. The latest iPhone software update is now available for a number of supported devices all the way back to the iPhone XR, released in 2018. It comes with a plethora of new features and changes such as Contact Posters, Check In, StandBy, Apple Maps offline mode, improved autocorrect, Live Stickers, audio/video messages in FaceTime, and more. However, as per Apple's website, there are a few iOS 17 features that you won't be able to use right away after installing the update: 1. Journal app The Journal app is one of the biggest highlights of iOS 17, which is yet to arrive on people's devices. As the name suggests, the app lets people journal and pen down their thoughts while practicing gratitude and reflecting on their life's moments. It uses on-device machine learning to throw personalized suggestions based on recent activities such as workouts, places visited, people, photos, etc. Apple says it comes with features like end-to-end encryption and the ability to lock the app to ensure the user's entries remain private. 2. AirDrop over internet If you're sharing content between two devices and you step out of the AirDrop range, the transfer will automatically continue over the internet. Moreover, the content you're sharing or receiving will be delivered in full quality. This iOS 17 app will arrive sometime later this year, however, it will only work if both the sender and recipient are signed in to their respective iCloud accounts. 3. Collaborative Playlists A new iOS 17 feature coming to the Apple Music app is known as Collaborative Playlists. You can invite your friends to join a playlist and add their favorite songs. They can also reorder or remove songs from the common playlist and use emoji to react to the songs in the Now Playing section. 4. Enhanced AutoFill This upcoming iOS 17 feature can automatically pull information saved in contacts to quickly fill out PDFs and scanned documents. Later this year, the feature will also arrive on iPadOS 17, which is currently sharing the launchpad with iOS 17, watchOS 10, and tvOS 17 updates. 5. iMessage improvements There will be a new catch-up arrow on the iMessage conversations page that will let you quickly jump to the first message you haven't seen in a conversation. 6. Sign in using nearby devices Apple has tried to make the sign in process easier with the latest update. iOS 17 will let you sign in to your iPhone using a nearby device or any email address or phone number listed in your account. These features will arrive later this year as part of incremental updates to iOS 17. However, as of now, there is no word on the specific release date for any of these above-mentioned features. 2. iOS 17, Apple's latest mobile operating system announced at WWDC 2023, is now available for download. It brings redesigned communication experiences, updates for AirDrop, iMessage improvements, a new StandBy mode, interactive widgets, and more. Which iPhone models support iOS 17? Bad news for those owning an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X—these smartphones are no longer supported. From now on, the most recent iOS releases require a second-generation iPhone SE, iPhone XS/XS Max, or iPhone XR. Here is the complete list of supported iPhone models: iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). iPhone XR. iPhone XS and XS Max. iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. What is new in iOS 17? Redesigned Phone Experience. iOS 17 lets you create a personalized Contact Poster and express yourself with photos, memoji, and typography. Contact Posters are available in the standard Phone app and third-party calling applications. Live Voicemail. You can see real-time transcription or pick up the phone when someone leaves a voicemail. FaceTime Audio and Video Messages. If the person you are trying to reach via FaceTime is unavailable, you can leave a video or audio message. In addition, FaceTime is now available on Apple TV 4K, powered by Continuity Camera on your iPhone. iMessage improvements. The "blue bubble" camp can now enjoy the latest advancements in iMessage, such as a new place for iMessage apps, auto check-in, a swipe-to-reply gesture, search filters, and audio message transcription. StandBy. Turn your iPhone sideways when on charge to display useful information, such as date and time, music, photos, Live Activities, Siri results, and more. StandBy also works with third-party apps. Interactive Widgets. You can now tick reminders, play music, interact with smart home items, and more, all from the Home screen without opening the corresponding apps. NameDrop. You can exchange phone numbers, email addresses, and other contact-related data, including your Contact Poster, with other people by holding two iPhones together. AirDrop improvements. iOS 17 makes sharing items via AirDrop much easier. Bring two iPhones together to initiate the transfer. Later this year, users will get the option to transfer files using AirDrop over the internet when not nearby. Keyboard improvements. Apple has finally reworked its autocorrect logic, making it more convenient and less intrusive. iOS 17 will underline autocorrected words, allowing you to revert to the original with a single tap. In addition, you can use inline prediction and finish words or entire sentences by tapping the spacebar key. Safari Upgrades. iOS' built-in browser lets you create dedicated spaces for work, personal browsing, and other activities with history, extensions, tab groups, cookies, and favorites separated from one another. AirPods. With iOS 17, second-generation AirPods Pro get Adaptive Audio that dynamically blends Transparency mode and noise cancelation. You can also quickly mute or unmute yourself on a call by pressing the stem on your AirPods. Finally, Apple has made automatic switching easier, faster, and more reliable. Health App. iOS 17 delivers plenty of upgrades for the Health app, allowing you to track even more health metrics, such as your emotions and sunlight exposure (with compatible Apple Watch models). The medication tracker can provide more reminders and give you charts, highlights, and overviews about when and how consistently you take your medications. Finally, your iPhone can warn you when you hold it too close to your eyes, potentially creating risks for your eyesight. Siri improvements. Say goodbye to "Hey, Siri." With iOS 17, you can just say "Siri." Also, the digital assistant supports back-to-back requests. And here are some other notable changes iOS 17 brings: Downloadable maps for offline use and real-time charging station monitoring for electric vehicles. Autofill verification codes received in Mail. Password sharing with trusted contacts. Communication Safety with additional protections for sensitive videos and photos received in messages, AirDrop, FaceTime, and more. iOS 17 can also blur sensitive images and videos before you view them. How to download iOS 17? Launch the Settings app on your iPhone. Go to General > Software Update. Wait for your iPhone to detect the update, then tap iOS 17 at the bottom of the screen. Note that you can stay on iOS 16 and continue receiving updates for it, even if your iPhone supports a newer release. Proceed with on-screen instructions. Are you updating your iPhone today? Source
  3. Messages gets a redesign and some helpful new tools. iOS 17 is available now and ready to install if you’ve got an iPhone released in the last five years — and as usual, Apple has added upgrades and new features to its iOS apps as well as to the mobile operating system itself. Here, we’ll show you what you can now do in Messages using iOS 17 that you couldn’t do before. There are several new features that you’re likely to find useful, while a few existing features have been reorganized and improved upon. (What we still don’t have yet and are unlikely to get in the near future is RCS messaging. Any of your friends or family members who are on Android are still going to appear as green bubbles and won’t be able to share in a lot of the new iOS 17 features.) Audio messages are transcribed If you can’t listen to the audio messages you’re sent for whatever reason or simply want to glance at your screen to see what it’s all about, the new automatic transcription option is useful. When someone sends you a voice message on iOS 17, it’ll arrive with a text transcription underneath it. You don’t have to press play — you can just read the transcription instead. The text is always attached, and you can’t turn the feature off. Check In with contacts Check In will be explained the first time you use it. If you don’t arrive on time, your data will be shared with your chosen contact. My favorite new feature in Messages for iOS 17 is Check In: it lets you share an estimated time of arrival with a trusted contact and can send out an alert if you don’t turn up at your destination as expected. Tap the + (plus) button next to the text input box in a conversation. Choose Check In from the list of options. Tap Edit to customize the Check In: you can choose either When I arrive or After a timer. Go for When I arrive, and you get to choose a destination, a mode of transport, and an estimated travel time. If you don’t meet that ETA, the app will check in with you. Alternatively, select After a timer, pick the timer duration, and the check-in happens when the chosen period of time elapses. The check-in itself is a simple prompt making sure you’re okay. If you don’t respond to it within 15 minutes, the contact you’re chatting with gets a message saying that something might be wrong. This message will also be sent if your phone is offline for an extended period of time. Your trusted contact also gets some information along with this alert, including your last known location and the level of battery and cell signal on your phone (and Apple Watch, if you have one). You can modify how much information is shared when you set up the Check In. If you opt for the When I arrive Check In and you turn up at the selected destination by the specified time, there’s no prompt at your end. The person at the other end of the conversation gets a notification that you’ve arrived safely. Search with multiple filters You can now combine several terms and filters into the same search in Messages. Drag down on the main conversation list, tap in the search box at the top, and start to search for something (like a person or a word). Once you’ve selected the filter from the drop-down suggestion list, you can add another. For example, you can look for links that mention a specific word or for photos that have been sent by a particular contact rather than using these criteria individually. Apps in Messages Apps are grouped together in a new submenu. You can reorder the apps to keep the most useful ones top. The various mini-apps that come along with Messages, from Music to Photos, have moved behind a + (plus) button to the left of the text input box. Tap on it to see the apps you use the most, then tap More to see the rest. Tap and hold on one of these apps, and you can then drag it into a new position in the list —handy if you want certain apps within easy reach at all times. Navigation and replies At some point, you’ve probably left a group chat and then resumed it to find that you’ve got a pile of messages to catch up on. There is now a little arrow on the right-hand side that takes you back to the point in the conversation where you left off last time so you can see what you’ve missed. It works for one-to-one chats as well as group conversations. Replying to messages is easier in iOS 17 as well: swipe to the right on a message to quickly reply to it. Location sharing You can share your location and have it update in real time. On the contact card, you’re able to request a location share from someone else. Location sharing has been improved as well: you can now share your current location in real time inside the Messages app without needing to jump out to Apple Maps or the Find My app. Tap the + (plus) button to the left of the text input box in a conversation. Choose Location from the list of options. By default, you’ll be sharing your location in real time: tap Share and then choose Indefinitely, Until End of Day, or For One Hour to set how long it’s shared for. Alternatively, tap the pin icon on the left and then Send Pin to share where you are right now without any updates. Whichever location sharing option you pick, it’ll appear embedded inside a message in the conversation. If you tap on the other person’s name at the top of the conversation, you’ll find options to request their location and to stop sharing your own location. Automatically delete verification codes If you’ve set up two-step verification on your most important accounts — and you really should — then you may get verification codes texted to your iPhone to help you prove you are who you say you are when logging in. For some extra peace of mind and to help keep your conversation list clutter-free, Messages can automatically delete these codes when you’re done with them. Open up Settings in iOS, then scroll down to the section with the settings for built-in apps (below App Store and Wallet & Apple Pay). Choose Passwords > Password Options and enable the Clean Up Automatically option. Source
  4. Apple recently announced its new devices, updates, and new technologies at the WWDC 2023 event. One of the announcements revealed the new iOS 17 features, design, and more. Apple has also shared the iOS 17 wallpaper, and we have it ready below. You can download the wallpaper below and start using it on your phone! The new iOS 17 default wallpaper is vague, with gradients in various colours. These colours include red, orange, pink, and blue. Apple has also decided to design two different wallpapers, a light, and a dark version. Last year, the company only had one version, and it was light. This year, we will also get an extra darker version of the same design. Moreover, these aren't the only options that you can pick from. Apple has also included dynamic versions of wallpapers in iOS 17. They will be available once the OS finally rolls out. Unfortunately, you won't find the animated versions in this article, as we can only upload the regular ones. The new iOS 17 wallpaper is available in full quality for download below. Click the images and download them from the tab to get the best resolution and the full image. These are best for ?phone 14 Pro Max, but you can adjust them according to your phone and preferences. Here are the iOS 17 wallpapers: Light Dark iOS 17 wallpapers aren't the only newcomers iOS 17 wallpapers are new, but they are not the only thing that Apple announced with its new OS. As Apple unveiled the brilliant iOS 17 Check In function, iOS 17 represents a huge milestone in highlighting user safety. When an iPhone user arrives at their location, a notice is sent to their specified contacts, indicating a successful arrival. This real-time communication ensures that loved ones are kept up to date and that any concerns they may have had throughout the waiting period are alleviated. You may currently only test the developer beta; the public beta will be available in July. It is because Apple still has various issues to work out, and they will seek feedback from developers before releasing it to the general public. As a result, the corporation will have more time to test and address big issues, allowing the public to test a cleaner version with fewer bugs, mistakes, and difficulties. Here are the new iOS 17 wallpapers
  5. Apple held its WWDC 2023 conference keynote today and it unveiled new Macs, a new chip for Macs and iOS 17 for iPhones. Among the new iOS features are Contact Posters and NameDrop which let you customize the incoming call experience and share contact details just by holding iPhones near each other. With Contact Posters, you get a full-screen graphic of the person calling you. This will help users work out who's calling them so they can decide if they want to answer. Contact Posters were shown using pictures of people and their Memoji. “With iOS 17, we’ve made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “Phone, FaceTime, and Messages are central to how we communicate, and this release is packed with updates we think our users are going to love. We’ve also reimagined AirDrop with new ways to share, autocorrect gets even better, and we’re introducing all-new experiences with Journal and StandBy, plus so much more. We can’t wait for everyone to try it.” During the keynote, Apple also showed off NameDrop, you just hold your iPhones near each other and you'll be able to share contact details such as your phone number, email address, and Contact Poster. This seems like a much more elegant way of exchanging details than rifling through your phone looking for your phone number. You can also send photos and files to other users like this and if the file is larger, iOS now lets you move away from the other phone and the transfer will continue. For those of you out there who like writing stuff down, Apple has introduced a new app with iOS 17 called Journal. With Journal, you can save various types of rich content including contacts, locations, music, photos, podcasts, and workouts. As an example, if you went for a walk at the beach with your earbuds in, you could store a journal entry with the pictures you took and the songs you listened to so that you can relive the experience. Apple said that these Journal entries are end-to-end encrypted too, you they will remain private. Other features include Live Stickers, Live Voicemail, better autocorrect and StandBy which displays information while the phone is docked and charging. 6. One of the biggest rumors about Apple's plans for iOS 17 is that it will support sideloading of apps outside the official store. While that may turn out to be true, Apple may only make that feature available to iOS devices in Europe. This bit of info was revealed by Bloomberg reporter and noted Apple leaker Mark Gurman during the latest MacRumors podcast. Apple will be required to support sideloading for iOS devices in Europe due to the passage of the EU's Digital Markets Act in 2022. However, Gurman stated this feature may not be made available in other parts of the world. He added that he believes Apple won't even mention the iOS 17 sideloading feature as part of the company's keynote address during its WWDC 2023 event on June 5. Even if Apple does add sideloading to iOS 17 in Europe, Gurman stated during the podcast that the company may make app developers pay an extra fee if they launch their apps on a third-party store. Gurman also repeated his earlier report that WatchOS 10 will be a major update for the Apple Watch OS, with some new ways to interact with the smartwatch. New report says Apple's iOS 17 sideloading app feature may only be available in Europe
  7. Believe it or not, the highly anticipated new iOS 17 features are just around the corner and are set to be announced at the much-awaited Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5. Apple enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting this major software update, which promises to bring a host of new features and changes to iPhone users. Once iOS 17 is announced at WWDC, Apple will waste no time and immediately release a beta version of the update for developers. Following that, in July, a public beta will be made available for all iPhone users to try out and provide valuable feedback. Finally, in September, iOS 17 will be released to the general public, coinciding with the launch of the highly anticipated new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro lineups. New iOS 17 features are expected to be announced at WWDC 2023 - Image: Apple What are the new iOS 17 features? While hardware product leaks are common, software leaks are relatively rare, as Apple tightly controls information disclosure. Nevertheless, rumors suggest that iOS 17 will bring a relatively modest update in terms of new features, with a focus on incorporating "nice to have" changes. Bloomberg reports that iOS 17, along with Apple's other software platforms, is taking a backseat as the company dedicates its resources to the development of its AR/VR headset, which may also be announced at WWDC. As the countdown to WWDC begins, more leaks and rumors may emerge, shedding further light on what iOS 17 has in store for Apple users. While Apple excels at keeping its developments under wraps until the official unveiling, expectations are high for this major software update. Here are the expected new iOS 17 features
  8. Apple is working on a new Live Activities feature for the Maps app that will display turn-by-turn navigation directly on the lock screen, according to Apple leaker @analyst941. They claim that it will be a part of iOS 17 and shared a render that gives an idea of how the unreleased feature would look in action. It shows the map in a square window along with some direction prompts at the top. Released with iOS 16 last year, Live Activities is meant to display an app's most current data on the lock screen and in Dynamic Island. For instance, the feature can show how far an Uber is from its pickup location. It can also display workout progress, live game scores, or how much time is left for a food delivery order to arrive. As per their tweet, the Maps Live Activity feature will offer a "seamless transition when unlocking" the device. Users will be able to swipe up on the screen and view their notifications as usual. While covering a big real estate on the lock screen, it would be like "a wallpaper for the most part" with the ability to move the map around, the leaker said. However, they added that the company is experimenting with a single tap or long press on the map to open the full app. The company is also testing multiple ways to resize the live activity such as adding a graphic button, or with a long press or single tap. Moreover, the leaker alleges that it's possible to minimize the live activity to the size of the music player in the lock screen and re-maximize it by tapping the activity. iOS 17 is rumored to bring various other features such as revamped versions of the Wallpapers, Health, and Wallet apps. Apple will talk about the iOS 17 features and changes during its WWDC 2023 keynote next month. It is expected to add the long-awaited app sideloading capability as well but a recent report suggests the feature might be limited to Europe only. New report claims iOS 17 to display turn-by-turn navigation directly on the lock screen
  9. Your iPhone can do double duty as a bedside clock with one of iOS 17’s best features. With iOS 17, your iPhone will learn a useful new trick: StandBy mode. It’s simple — StandBy turns your iPhone screen into a little smart display while it’s charging. We’ve only been using it for a little while, but it’s already a staff favorite. It’s especially handy with the iPhone 14 Pro models since it remains visible at all times thanks to that always-on display, but you don’t need a top-of-the-line iPhone to make it work; it’s supported by all models eligible for the iOS 17 update. Here’s how to get started using StandBy — we followed these steps on an iPhone 14 running the iOS 17 public beta. Tap through an onboarding screen and you’re on your way to StandBy mode. Step one is easy: put your screen to sleep, rotate the phone to landscape, and set it down to charge. It doesn’t matter how — wired, wireless Qi, MagSafe — it all works. Just set your iPhone on a charging stand in landscape mode, or plug it in, turn it sideways, and prop it up. Tap Continue when you’re prompted to start using StandBy. There’s not really a setup process, per se — you just jump right into StandBy, where you’ll find three basic options to choose from: a widget view, photos, or a clock face. You can scroll through them by swiping to the left. To customize the widget view, long-press either the clock or calendar and unlock your phone if prompted. From here, you can customize both sides of the display (they’re both actually just smart widget stacks). Tap the plus icon in the upper left of the screen to add a widget to the stack and remove widgets by tapping the minus icons as you would on your iPhone homescreen. By default, the phone will rotate through the widgets based on its best guess about what you want to see at a given time, but you can toggle that on and off. To customize the photo view, long-press the middle of the screen. Tap the plus icon in this view to select an album to show on the screen — otherwise, the phone will show the Featured Photos highlighted in the For You tab in the Photos app. This clock and calendar view is actually two stacks of widgets that you can customize to your liking. The clock viewoffers five different styles, most of which you can customize. Swipe up and down to scroll between the different styles, and long-press the middle of the screen to access customization options. Tap the white circle in the lower right corner to change the colour palette for the corresponding clock style. Tapping the white circle brings up a colour picker where you can customize the background colour of this clock view. You can also access some basic StandBy options in the settings menu. Go to Settings > StandBy. You can toggle StandBy off entirely here and turn off notifications with the mode enabled (they’re on by default). You can also disable Night Mode, which shifts the screen to a red tint in a dark room so it’s not glaringly bright. There’s a new section in the main settings menu for StandBy. There are a few options to toggle on and o ff here, including whether you’ll get notifications in StandBy. StandBy also includes one more neat feature you won’t find on any settings menu: when you use this mode with certified MagSafe chargers, the phone will remember your preferred view for each individual charger. So you can set up a widget view in the kitchen and a chill clock face for your nightstand — the choice is yours. Source
